Stop Pollution!

For this week for reading we read a text called Trees, seas, and soil.  It was a very interesting text about how the world functions and how things go in a cycle. I learnt that the C02 that dissolves into water, gets used by phytoplankton for photosynthesis. The create was to put objects that affect our environment inside a sink and write how they effect nature in a bad way. This is what I have made:

What affects your environment and what can we do to fix it?

Roller Coaster (Reading Create)

For this weeks reading create, we had to complete 3 tasks and this is one of the tasks I have made. For this create, we had to make our own roller coaster design. We had to make the roller coaster accurate. We had to make the velocity, the G-force accurate and we had to make it stable. This is the work I have made:

Have you ever been on a roller coaster?

Reading Create

For this weeks reading create we had to watch a, story, comic or a video. We them inferred what we thought about the comic strip. If you don’t know what inferring is, we infer when we make a conclusion because of evidence or known facts.

Example: I saw a girl with a red face. I’ve inferred that the girl is mad because of how red her face is. Our goal was predict, interpret and analyse text. This is my work.

I enjoyed learning about this and I hope I can learn new things.

Is there anything you’ve inferred on?

Peace Blog Post

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are doves with an olive branch, a peace sign, yin yang and more. These symbols represent peace because the olive branch represents dry land nearby and the dove represents peace and purity. With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because my art has a peace symbol over the earth to represent and promote peace to the world. This is my peace artwork:

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was a president of South Africa and he promoted peace by spreading equality and kindness to South Africa. Nelson finally helped the suffering people. He also worked hard to make South Africa a country of equality, where people of all races and colours could live together in peace. This is the champions of peace writing I wrote about.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it made me think about it more and spread peace to others. I learnt that peace is more common than we think. Learning about peace made me be more peaceful everyday. One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by helping others everyday and putting a smile on everyone’s faces.

I have really enjoyed learning about peace, and I learnt a lot from it. Who is your favourite peacemaker?

The Berlin Wall

Kia ora everyone. For this weeks reading create, we had to read an article about a person that used to live in east Germany.  On 13 August 1961, the East German government began to build a wall. Although the wall went right through the city of Berlin, it was finished in just two days. Suddenly an entire population was trapped. Over the next three decades, soldiers guarded the Berlin Wall so the East German people couldnʼt escape to the West. Still, thousands tried, and many were killed. We had three choices for a reading create. The one I chose was to make a recreation of the graffiti in the Berlin wall. This is my final product:

What do you know about history?

Tiles!

For this weeks math create, we had to make a tile pattern. We needed 6 different shapes, 6 different complementary colours (which are colours from the colour wheel) included in the tile pattern.  Symmetry is when a pattern or a shape is the same on both sides. A shape has symmetry if a dividing line can be drawn on it, to show that both sides of the shape are exactly the same. The shapes I used are: Triangles, Squares, Trapeiziums, Right angle triangle, Rectangles and Circles.

This is my tile pattern:

What is your favourite shape?

Reading Create

Hello, for this weeks reading create we had to choose which story to read. I chose By The River – The story was about a girl called Kenzie going to school camp and having fun with friends. She didn’t want to go because her friend Chloe always spends time with this other girl called Maddie. Kenzie actually starts having a good time. Kenzie is more of a calm girl so she went to the river by herself to chill. There was a water slide and a lot of people were riding it. Kenzie wasn’t scared of heights so she just went in the slide and had a lot of fun. We had to write a prediction before writing the story, make predictions whilst reading the story, confirm the predictions I made and see if I was right or wrong.

I really enjoyed the story because it tells us people can be in a bad day but they can always find a way to boost their mood. This is my final product.

Poems

Hello everyone.

Over the first few weeks of Term 3 we have been reading and writing all different types of poetry.

List Poems: I discovered that a list poem is a poetic form that presents ideas, images, or emotions through a series of items or descriptions. The list poems very surprisingly very fun and easy to write. This is the poem I wrote. Please enjoy reading my poetry.

Reading, books, magazines and movie subtitles

Writing, Diary, Stories and Finishing our report

Mathematics, Fractions, Times Tables

Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Animals

Cheetahs, fast, athletic and furious.

Cats, suspicious and curious.

Lions, strong, durable and proud.

Birds, small and loud.

I really enjoyed writing poems especially with a friend. It was fun to share different ideas with my friends. I found it hard to think of a topic for the list poems I was going to write.

What is your favourite poem?

Science experiment

In science we have been learning about electricity. The materials we used for the experiment were:

  • 4 nails: 2 copper and 2 zinc
  • Beaker labelled ‘T’ full of tap water
  • Buzzer
  • Empty specimen jar
  • Plastic spoon
  • Empty beaker labelled ‘S’ (for salt water)
  • Several tissues
  • Student handouts

Our goal was to make the buzzer make a sound. My hypothesis: Before conducting the experiment I thought that our experiment will be successful. We first poured 375 ml of water into a beaker. Then we put a spoonful of salt into the water and mixed it with a spoon. With the small jar, we connected the nails with the beaker. After that we poured the salt water in. The experiment didn’t work because we put too much water and the nails were positioned in the wrong way. After some attempts, the experiment worked.

After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was correct because the experiment worked.

Something interesting I found about this experiment was that When you put salt in water, the water molecules pull the sodium and chlorine atoms apart so they are floating freely increasing the conductivity (means that it has the degree to be specified as a material that produces electricity). These atoms are what carry electricity through the water with an electric current. In short, saltwater (water + sodium chloride) can help to produce electricity.

Something I found challenging was to put the copper and zinc nails in the right directions.

If I was to experiment this again or something similar I now know how to power up a buzzer.

Have you ever tried a science experiment?

Reading Create (Article Features)

For this weeks reading create, we had to choose from 2 articles. A climate change article or a article about the fair chocolate business. After we read one of the texts, we had to make a comic strip that explains the features of the text or make a poster summarizing and writing your opinions of the text. I chose to make a comic strip explaining all the features from the article. If you don’t know what a feature is, it is something like a title or a subheading. Some features that are in a text. For example, a subheading is a small title that indicates a main part of a text. A subheading can be like ‘Growing up as a kid’ and below the subheading, you could write about growing up as a kid. Down below, I made a comic strip and I hope you enjoy it. I really enjoyed making this reading create and I hope I can do these sorts of stuff in the future.

Have you ever seen any features from articles?
